$100,000 contribution from Penn Community Bank expands homebuying grant, financial literacy program in Philly neighborhoods

PHILADELPHIA, Pa (October 2022) – Penn Community Bank, the largest mutual bank in eastern Pennsylvania, has partnered with Clarifi to expand homeownership opportunities for Philadelphia residents.

Rapidly rising housing prices, broad inflation, and interest rate hikes have all left their mark on the nation and local communities. Homeownership, the single best means for creating and passing on wealth to new generations, is increasingly out of reach for minorities and those who fall into the low to moderate income bracket. . In response, Penn Community Bank’s $100,000 contribution will support homeownership counselling and homebuying grants for Philadelphians residing in majority minority and low to moderate income areas of the city. .

PERKASIE (October 2022) – Penn Community Bank, the largest independent mutual bank in eastern Pennsylvania, is pledging $40,000 to United Way of Bucks County in support of the nonprofit’s HELP Center. The contribution will ensure that the Center can continue to meet growing needs in the community.

The HELP Center, a Healthy Eating and Living Partnership, provides essentials like cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, and home goods – completely free of charge – to local families who are struggling financially. Since opening in March 2020, it has evolved to meet residents’ changing needs.

“The HELP Center has quickly become an essential resource in Bucks County,” said Marissa Christie, President & CEO at United Way of Bucks County. “We serve folks with all sorts of needs – from working families just struggling to get by to survivors of natural disasters. Currently, we’re helping Ukrainian refugees who have arrived here with virtually nothing. None of this would be possible without the support of partners like Penn Community Bank.”

Pilot program helps eligible residents increase financial literacy, improve credit scores, & secure low-interest used car loans

 PERKASIE, Pa (September 2022) – Penn Community Bank, the largest independent mutual bank in eastern Pennsylvania, is partnering with United Way of Bucks County, the County of Bucks, and Credit Counseling Center, to launch a new financial stability program called LIFT United. The pilot program aims to help eligible residents increase their financial literacy, improve their credit scores, and secure low-interest used car loans.

LIFT United, which stands for “Learn to Invest in Your Future and Thrive,” is designed to support ALICE (Asset Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed) households in Bucks County. Credit Counseling Center will offer free financial literacy courses and one-on-one budget coaching for program participants. Successful participants will receive a down payment match of up to $1,000 and a low-interest car loan secured by United Way. All loans are offered by Penn Community Bank.

PERKASIE, Pa (May 2022) – Penn Community Bank, the largest independent mutual bank in eastern Pennsylvania, hosted its first-ever Day of Service on Wednesday, May 25. The organization-wide event partnered 300+ bank team members with over a dozen nonprofit partners throughout Bucks Co., Montgomery Co., and the Lehigh Valley to donate over 1,000 employee hours of volunteer service as well as $100,000 in charitable contributions.

Contribution to Bristol-based New Promise Foundation, Inc. provides basic necessities for displaced Ukrainians in Pennsylvania

BRISTOL, Pa. (May 2022) – Penn Community Bank, the largest mutual bank in eastern Pennsylvania, is continuing its support of relief efforts for those displaced by the conflict in Ukraine by contributing $5,000 to the New Promise Foundation, a Bristol-based nonprofit assisting Ukrainian nationals in Pennsylvania.

The funds provided by the bank will enable us to extend our help to even more locally based families with children, including those that have just arrived from Ukraine and need assistance with housing, food, school supplies and other basic necessities,” said Irena Gamkiv, member of the board of directors of New Promise Foundation. “We are very grateful to all of our local partners for the ongoing assistance they provide.
